  • GMT geologists are working on data collected by Monitoring Technology, Inc.  New Zealand. They collected subbottom profiler data from a swamp in New Zealand to locate buried Kauri Trees. New Zealand native Kauri trees (Agathis australis) that fell thousands of years ago are known simply as Ancient Kauri. The trees have been buried and preserved underground in swamps for more than 45,000 years.  By using a subbottom profiler to locate these buried trees, they can then be excavated and marketed for their valuable wood. • Our geologists are working on interpreting data acquired by American Surveying and Engineering. They acquired subbottom profiler data across the St. Clair River which separates Michigan from Ontario.  The data was acquired to determine the depth to bedrock so that a horizontal directional drill program can be planned.  The intent is to bore a tunnel beneath the riverbed in which a pipeline will be installed.
